You have heard all about it in the news – the detrimental effects of greenhouse gases and what we can do to stop them. For those who may not be in the know, a greenhouse gas is a type of gas that emits radiation that is both harmful and destructive to the Earth’s atmosphere and, by extension, our own lives. However, the latest advancements in farming technology may see a severe reduction in the production of said gasses.
They are called “No-till Farms” and you might have heard of them if you have done your research. Basically, they are just like the name suggests. No tilling is involved in the upkeep of these farms. You might ask yourself how a farm that doesn’t till can possibly hope to yield a crop, especially with the threat of weeds. In the past, farmers had to rely on heavy-duty tillers to till large tracts of land and this, while good for the land, was absolutely horrible for the atmosphere. Now, the latest biotechnological advancements have created some crops that are resistant to herbicides.
What does this mean?
It means that farmers will finally be able to use the herbicides to kill the weeds without having to kill their crops. It means no tilling and, thus, less greenhouse gas.
